They can be used on any occasion, not to mention they’re a great tool to greet members of the family or any people who can see your garden.

They’re an outdoor decoration which intends to make your garden look more cheerful and lively. That said, there are countless designs that you can do to make your garden flag appealing. There’s no need to make an expensive garden flag. Just make sure to use your creativity and check these following steps on how to make a garden flag.

Before you start, you have to prepare the following:

  • Enough length of tough cloth like burlap
  • Paint (waterproof paint)
  • Scissors
  • Fabric glue
  • Thread and needle
  • Wood or steel pole

Decide on the Type of Cloth You Want to Use

Most of the gardeners used burlap to make garden flags. Since this is an outdoor decoration, it is expected to stand up the test of time. Also, if you do not have burlap available, find a robust and tough cloth for your flag. The canvass is a good material for hanging since it’s heavy. The heavier the cloth, the better it will hang.

Create the Best Design

There are lots of great designs to choose from. For most garden decorations, bright color is better and vibrant since it will give a good contrast to your plants. If you want a summer-themed garden flag, you can design flower or sun from cloth and stitch it to the canvass or burlap. If you want something unique, you can also turn your flag into a scarecrow design.

Measure the Cloth and the Flagpole

The flagpole is usually 12 inches long. For your cloth, cut at least 12 inches long. Always refer to your design when planning to measure the cloth. If you don’t want to use cloth for your flag, use a wooden pole and piece of wood instead. It is preferable to use waterproof paint such as spray paint or shoe waterproof paint when designing.

Put the Flag

Once you’re done with the design, you can use needle and thread to stitch the flag; you may also use glue. Find the best location where you can attach the flagpole.
