Most gardeners often wonder about how to make a garden fence on their own in order to protect their garden. Though there are some who just want a fence in order to keep animals out, you can also use a fence to decorate your garden further. Whatever your reason is, here is a guide to make your very own fence.
What to Keep in Mind
Sure, there are many guides available out there about how to make a garden fence, but there is something you need to keep in mind before you even started building. You should first make sure to leave enough space between the fence you are going to build and the area where you grow your plants. This place will serve as your catwalk so you can freely move around to tend to your plants.
Steps in Making a Garden Fence
Prepare all the materials that you will likely need. You are free to choose the material for your fence — it could either be mesh, wire, or wood. Using a measuring tape, measure the area where you wanted to build your fence including the preferred height for your fence.
For the post, dig a post hole until you can completely bury about half of your pole. Put gravel on the bottom of that post hole in order to aid with the drainage. Repeat this with the other post holes and make sure that each of the holes is evenly distanced from one another.
Once you inserted the pole, fill the spaces with soil or even cement. If you use soil to fill in the spaces, make sure to continuously compress the soil until it makes a tight fit.
Cut the material you choose and attach it on the pole. You can use nails to attach the fence.
If you want, you can add a gate for your fence by extending the materials you used for the fence for about 1 foot. Just make sure to add a hook on the ends so that you can keep it close whenever you leave it.
