Football-mad Argentina will be welcoming their national hero as Lionel Messi is set to play for Argentina in the Copa America to be held in Brazil this June. According to Coach Lionel Scaloni who was speaking from Morocco Monday where the La Albiceleste plays the national team on Tuesday, he still has not talked and discussed with the Barcelona superstar the Copa America after his team lost to Venezuela 3-1 last Friday.
Scaloni is basing his statement on how the multi-awarded striker performs on the pitch in the loss to the Venezuelan National Team. He said that Messi showed maximum will and was very driven against Venezuela. After the match, however, both Messi and Escaloni had talked on several ways to make the team get better. Whether it is for future tournaments, it remains to be seen.
Coach Lionel Scaloni also added that the current team should not be dependent and reliant to the Barcelona striker in Copa America. He added that the coaching staff had been devising and working ways in order not to depend so much on the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner. Argentina will try to capture its first Copa America since winning it last 1993.
The friendly match against Venezuela which was held at the Wanda Metropolitan Stadium in Spain was the first time Messi donned the national color after a disappointing performance in Russia last year. Escaloni told after the match that Messi played a solid game and was responsible for creating several chances for his teammates. Argentina was also scheduled to play against Morocco on Tuesday, but the superstar striker will not be able to play the match due to a lingering groin injury.
The Copa America is scheduled to start on June 14, 2019 in Brazil.
