On Monday, May 13, 2019, a cargo plane from China arrived in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. The Venezuelan Ministry of Communication has stated in a CNN news report.

The said plane arrived in the capital bringing help to the impoverished nation. China has bought over a million or more units of medical items. This includes medical equipment, surgical supplies, and medicine. All of the items will be given to the agencies for distribution. President Nicolas Maduro made sure to appoint the agencies to ensure proper and equal distribution of the items.

The help from China was much appreciated as Venezuela is in deep crisis, leading to a lot of sufferings from its people because of the extreme shortages in medicine and food. Plus, power outages are prevalent in the country.

Last March, CGTN, a Chinese TV channel, reported that a plane from their country arrived in Caracas. With it, medical supplies worth 65 tons are provided. This was marked as the first dispatched supplies given to Venezuela from China.

Maduro maintains his aid for Beijing. But, China opposes any action that may cause unrest and tension to the already suffering Venezuela. The relationship is strong within these countries as China owed a lot of sums on Maduro’s government over the past decade. On the other hand, Beijing has provided more than $50 billion to Venezuela through oil-for-loan arrangements as stated by Reuters.

Although Maduro is open to receiving help from other sources as well such Red Cross, he is not open to other countries that support Juan Guaidó, an opposition leader. These countries are Canada, Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom. This is because Maduro does not support Guaidó, which is considered to be Venezuela’s temporary yet valid president despite the crisis happening in the country. Although this is so, the help they’re receiving from China and other accepted NGO groups are already a big help.
