The Peru State Bobcat baseball team scored an impressive back-to-back win and sweep the visiting Evangel Crusaders in the 2-game series at the Baseball Alumni Reunion. In spite of the cold and windy weather, the home team grind out a difficult 8 – 5 win in the first game and dominated the visiting team in the second game 10 – 2.
After scoring two wins, the Bobcats are now 20 – 22 in the season standings with a 16 – 11 record in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The visiting team fell to 18 – 23 record and 8 – 19 in the conference standings.
The first game was a nip-and-tuck affair with both teams failing to score on the first three innings. Evangel opens the scoreboard with a run on the top of the fourth, but the home team responded with an impressive two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving them the upper hand and the people’s support in the arena. The visiting team then scores two runs on the top of the fifth to catch up, but the home team dominated the bottom of the fifth scoring six runs and a score of 8 – 3, crushing their opponents bigtime. The Crusader then scored two runs on top of the seventh inning for the final score 8 – 5.
The second game was complete domination for the home team as they score 5 runs in the bottom of the very first inning, creating a much-needed separation that sealed the team’s second win in as many games. The visiting team would score two runs on top of the fourth, but the home team responded and scored two runs on the bottom of the fifth and three more on the seventh inning for the final score of 10 – 2.
Because of the win, Peru State is now seeded 6th in the upcoming Heart Post Season Tournament and will likely face 3rd seeded Clarke.
